Myth: You can’t be convicted if it’s just “he said, she said.”

Truth: You can be convicted if the court believes her. Many people have gone to jail on the testimony of a single witness. Especially these days, sexual assault cases will can — and will — go to trial based on the accusation alone. Instead of focusing on whether it’s just one person’s word against you, look at whether that person’s word is corroborated by any other evidence. But be aware that even if the person’s word is contradicted by other evidence, the case is still likely to go forward.
